Laser Hair & Threadvein Removal
Why Laser Treatments?
Unwanted hair and threadveins have long been the bane of our lives. Until now, most methods for removal are temporary such as shaving, painful like waxing or invasive like electrolysis.
Pulse is now able to offer you the very latest permanent hair and vein reduction system using advanced Laser technology. Our Laser is a Class 4 ND:Yag designed specifically for this purpose
How Does It Work?
The Laser emits an intense beam of light which passes safely through the upper layers of skin to the underlaying strata. Hair follicles or veins are then eliminated through a process known as selective photothermolysis. The pigment in the hair (melanin) or blood (haemoglobin) is targeted by the Laser energy. This generates heat which destroys the follicle or vein without harming the surrounding skin.
Is It Safe?
All Pulse operators have received extensive training. The energy of the Laser is controlled by the operator to get the maximum result, while ensuring that the treatment is comfortable for you, and is not causing any damage to the skin. The energy is determined by your skin type and hair colour (using what is known as the Fitzpatrick scale). The darker your skin, the lower the energy of the Laser due to the high presence of melanin. High energy treatment on darker skin may cause burning.
Will The Treatment Work?
The ideal combination of skin and hair type for hair removal is white skin and black hair. The absence of melanin in the skin enables much higher energy levels to be used. Our Laser is also particularly effective on black and olive skin types due to the wide range of energy levels that are possible for your treatment.
Hair with a lack of melanin such as red, light blonde, grey or white will not be sufficient for the process to be effective and a good result will not be acheived.
Although there is no research to suggest that there is a danger, Pulse do not treat pregnant women or minors.
Contraindications
There are many drugs (both prescription and non-prescription) that may cause an adverse reaction during your treatment so it is important that we are aware of any medication that you take while having Laser sessions. There are also certain factors that may affect the success of the treatment. Conditions that cause superfluous hair growth such as hormone imbalances are going to reduce the chance of success, so you must be advised on realistic expectations. For example, your hair may become softer, and a certain amount removed, but you may need ongoing treatment to maintain the reduction.
Side Effects
Although unlikely, as with any Laser treatment there is a danger of blistering, burning, hyper/hypopigmentation. Any adverse reactions are rare usually temporary, but in very isolated cases these may be permanent.
Hair Growth Cycles
Your hair grows in 3 stages, the Anagen (growing stage), the Catagen (resting stage) and the Telogen (dormant stage). Hair removal using Laser treatment is most effective in the Anagen stage of growth. The hair root is active and attached to the Dermal Papilla (shown in blue). The heat caused by the Laser energy at this stage will have a good chance of killing the hair follicle completely.
Your Test Patch
The test patch you need to have will determine the starting level of energy for your treatment. The energy level of the Laser is gradually increased throughout your course as you skin becomes accustomed to it.
Your hair must be shaved for the treatment. This is to make sure that the energy of the Laser is concentrated in the area where it is most effective, the hair root and follicle.
During the treatment, a series of shots a short intervals are directed at the area to be treated. The only discomfort that you will feel is the heat generated by the Laser. To make the treatment more comforatable we use a cooling system alongside the Laser. A jet of ice cold air is directed onto your skin to make the experience a lot more pleasurable.
After Your Treatment
Gel is used on the area after your treatment to cool the skin and provide a protective layer. Within the next few days, the dead hair roots will be pushed out of the skin. This dead hair is best removed by plucking or waxing and can be arranged at your Pulse salon.
It is very impotant to make sure that you wear a high sun protection factor after your treatment and during your whole course. Your skin will become much more sensitive to sunlight and the risk of burning is increased.
Your Next Appointment
After about 3-5 weeks, new hair will start to grow. As soon as this happens you will be able to book your next appointment. The heavier the hair re-growth, the more effective the treatment will be as the larger number of hairs in the Anagen stage there will be.
How Much Will It Cost?
Laser treatments can be paid for individually or as a package. If you book and pay for 6 treaments then you will receive one treatment free of charge (you only pay for 5). This however is not an indication that you will only need six treatments. With regular sessions at 3-5 weeks apart, we would usually see about 70-90% reduction in the hair after about 12 sessions.
Threadvein Removal
At Pulse we are able to remove threadveins and spiderveins using our Laser. The treatment is highly effective in nearly all cases and after just a few sessions can be permanent.
Aftercare for Laser Treatment
It is important that you make sure your skin is cared for properly during and after your treatment. Laser energy will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so a good sunprotection cream is vital. A suitable protection cream is available from Pulse salons.
Safety Precautions
Make sure that you are wearing your protective glasses during your treatment. The radiation emitted by the Laser is harmful.
Vulnerable adults and non-english speakers should seek our assistance before undergoing any treatment.
Important Note:
Please advise your technician if you are pregnant, have been prescribed Roacultaine in the last six months or have any recent skin conditions.
