Unwanted hair - the Cristianos solution

Cristianos have completed filming for the B.B.C.'s One Show for laser hair removal for a PCOS client (see news item for more details)

If unwanted hair is the problem, the Cristianos Laser Clinic Ltd will get straight to its root. The Cheshire, Manchester, Leeds, Lancashire and London based clinics specialise in all aspects of safe effective laser hair removal with a focus on the latest state of the art laser techniques.

Cristianos emerged in 1997 provioding laser hair removal, with the experience of one woman, Chris Hart. She was determined that all treatments, in which she was involved, had an ethical approach; the needs of clients would be the first consideration. She established the first Cristianos Laser Clinic in Altrincham, near Manchester, to provide that service. The reputation of the Clinic became such that demand increased and, in response to that need and to reduce the traveling times of clients, other Clinics have since been established around the U.K.

Chris has a wide background in Beauty Therapy, particularly laser hair removal. She was the first therapist in the U.K. to successfully treat clients using the laser for hair removal and the first therapist to establish a private clinic using the revolutionary and effective Chromos 694 Ruby Laser and now the state of the art system the Ultra VPLâ„¢

Cristianos have shown their commitment to existing and prospective clients by purchasing a new system that can treat Asian and darker skin tones for laser hair removal.

The Energist ULTRAâ„¢ System is the most advanced hair removal & skin rejuvenation product available. Utilising state-of-the-art Variable Pulsed Light (VPLâ„¢) technology, the ULTRAâ„¢ System can be adapted to ensure the optimal parameters to provide a safe, fast and effective treatment for every individual.

Treatments with the ULTRAâ„¢ include Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation. These include: redness, rosacea, age spots, freckles, pigment changes, skin texture and fine lines.

While the removal of unwanted hair is no more than a routine grooming procedure for many women, a large number, particularly during pregnancy or in middle age, experience a coarser, darker growth, which may require a more concentrated, long term treatment than straightforward waxing or shaving. Cristianos is the only private clinic in the U.K. to use the revolutionary Chromos 694 Ruby laser, clinically proven to offer a highly effective means of achieving long term hair removal quickly. It is considered by many clients to less painful than electrolysis.

From a modest beginning, the Cristianos name has become internationally synonymous for safe, effective and ethically driven treatments. Under her tutelage and guidance, Cristianos clinics are highly regarded by Beauty Therapy Professionals, Healthcare Professionals and client groups. Cristianos is encouraged by the enthusiastic response from eminent Healthcare Professionals and renowned Academic institutions that have joined the initiative established by Cristianos Laser Clinics Limited in clinical research into the field of hair removal for client groups and the treatment of hirsutism caused by medical conditions, especially Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Chris's hard work and that of the entire team enabled us to gain the acclaimed IIP Award in 2003 and re-certification in 2007.

Cristianos is registered to provide treatment for clients aged 16 and over

All users of laser and intense pulsed light equipment must register and be inspected by the Care Quality Commission. This registration usually covers the treatment of adults over the age of 18 years. In order to provide treatment for clients aged below this age Cristianos was required to apply for specific registration to treat clients aged 16 and above. The Commission are duty bound to protect the safety of children and young people and look closely at the policies and processes Cristianos have in place to ensure that young people are provided with treatment in a supportive and protective environment. Where a young person is considering treatment at Cristianos they must be referred by their GP and be accompanied by an adult.

Consultation

Cristianos has been developed and will continue to develop on the principles of providing an honest, caring, individual service to each and every one of our clients. Bringing the amazing innovative technology of the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser and the ULTRAâ„¢ to the trans community in an atmosphere of trust, encouragement and understanding is fundamental to our principles. You are welcome to come for an informal chat about your needs over a coffee and receive the very best professional advice without the fear of prejudice or exploitation and what's best of all is that all consultations and test patches are completely free of charge and without obligation.

We understand the need for privacy and confidentiality and you can always be assured of a warm welcome. You are more than welcome to bring a friend or partner with you.

For assessment or treatment your hair need only be visible on the surface of your skin. We will gladly remove your make-up and we also have the facilities for you to reapply it in privacy before leaving.

If your hair or skin is not suitable for laser treatment we will tell you. If you are simply unsure or not ready to try laser or VPL treatment we can offer you electrolysis or waxing.

Funding

The availability of funding for laser hair removal on the NHS varies from one Trust to another and is generally regarded as a cosmetic treatment. Some Trusts will have electrolysis clinics attached to their dermatology departments but generally speaking the waiting lists are extensive and the amount of treatment is restricted regardless of the severity of the patients condition. The availability of light based technology i.e. laser or intense pulsed light IPL within this framework is even more rear. Nevertheless where individual cases are presented certain Trusts are willing to out-source such treatment. Cristianos is a clinic known not only for the high standards of treatment and care but also the support offered to it’s clients. That same quality of client centered treatment and care has resulted in Cristianos being assessed by several Primary Care Trusts as being a suitable for providing contracted services for hair removal.

The NHS have a duty to ensure that treatment patients receive are safe, effective and performed by suitably qualified practitioners. Healthcare organisation's are required to monitor the quality of treatment they provide and produce audited data which demonstrates the safety and effectiveness of treatment. Healthcare Professionals are obliged by their professional Codes of Conduct to abide by Clinical Guidelines and can be struck off the register if they fail to do so. Hair removal either electrolysis or light based has traditionally fallen within the field of beauty therapy where although professionally qualified there are no mechanisms in place to withdraw qualifications for bad practice and no requirements to prove the safety or effectiveness of treatment. Therefore the NHS has in the past been reluctant to out-source treatments of this nature.

However the Care Standards Act 2000 (as amended) made it a criminal offence to operate a laser or intense pulse light system without prior registration with the Care Quality Commission. Registration requires the provider to demonstrate their compliance with a quality assurance framework known as the National Minimum Standards, NMS. Registration can be suspended or withdrawn where breaches in the NMS are found. The legal requirement to register and comply therefore gives the NHS a tool with which they can gauge the safety and effectiveness of any clinic and a mechanism by which they can report bad practice and as such many more Trusts are willing to contract such services.

If your unwanted hair is the result of a medical problem or is affecting your quality of life your PCT may pay for you to have treatment at Cristianos. If you think you would benefit you can contact Cristianos on freephone 0800-0850661 or in confidence to info@cristianos.co.uk

Ever thought IIP was an easy standard to meet?

This just shows the sort of commitment Cristianos is adopting towards the whole area of laser therapy. Chris Hart says, "As far as I am aware we are the only private laser hair removal clinic in the country to have this prestigious IIP award. We do not intend to stop there. It is our ambition to be set the standards nationally and everything we have done over the past 10 years highlights this".

Care Quality Commission

The clinics are registered with The Care Quality Commission. (CQC) and set the highest professional and ethical standards. The Cristianos treatment begins with a free and impartial consultation to determine the most appropriate course of treatment, based on hair and skin type and individual needs. The clinic’s team of highly skilled and experienced consultants offer a friendly, discreet service in comfortable surroundings. For those who are not ready to try the laser or are unsuited to this type of treatment, a full range of more conventional treatments, such as electrolysis and waxing, is also available. Not all clients are female and a perhaps surprising number of men include hair removal in their grooming programme.

Hair today - gone tomorrow thanks to laser technology

Hair removal may not be the most glamorous of grooming issues, but it is fast becoming a familiar routine for most women - and for some men too. A great many women, however, experience more problematic hair growth, which can cause embarrassment, loss of confidence, and self esteem. The Cristianos Laser Clinic has what is believed to be the optimum solution to this perennial problem - the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser, a speedy, safe, effective and long lasting way of removing unwanted facial and body hair.

The Cristianos Laser Clinic is one of only 9 UK clinics which invested in this state of the art laser system back in 1998, the effectiveness of which was been proven in clinical tests world-wide*. Despite the plethora of competing permanent hair removal systems now flooding the market, the Chromos 694 remains the only one used by plastic surgeons during reconstructive surgery where the donor site is hirsute.

Clients travel from all over the country to have treatment at Cristianos and the clinic extends an invitation to you to try this innovative treatment for yourself in the discreet and comfortable surroundings of its Altrincham, London, Lancashire and Leeds based clinics. The idea of lasting silky smooth under-arms, bikini line and legs has to be appealing to the majority of women whether they consider their hair growth a real problem or not.

Unwanted Hair: The Facts

For most women, superfluous hair is a minor grooming problem, kept easily in check by razors, creams or waxing, but for others this unwanted hair presents a more serious and frequently embarrassing problem. Almost 15% of women aged between 18 and 45 are troubled by excessive hair growth, a condition known as hirsutism, and facial hair is usually the most distressing symptom for sufferers.

Chris Hart, the driving force behind the Cristianos Laser Clinic, carried out extensive research into the most efficient and effective systems on the market before choosing the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser, developed at the Swansea Institute. Says Chris:

"Unwanted hair can be a source of great embarrassment to many people, but with the latest laser technology, there really is no longer any need to suffer unnecessarily. It is important, though, to choose a professional, responsible clinic and to be fully aware of the facts about laser/IPL treatment. There are number of different systems on the market - not all of them offer the same lasting results or are equally free from side effects".

Unwanted Hair: The Cristianos Solution

If unwanted hair is the problem, the Cristianos Laser Clinic Ltd will get straight to its root. The Cheshire, Manchester, Lancashire, London and Leeds based clinics specialise in all aspects of safe, effective hair removal, with a focus on the latest state of the art laser techniques.

While the removal of unwanted hair is no more than a routine grooming procedure for many women, a large number, particularly during pregnancy or in middle age, experience a coarser, darker growth, which may require a more concentrated, long-term treatment than straightforward waxing or shaving.

Cristianos is the only private clinic in the UK to introduce the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser and the Energist Ultra VPL, both clinically proven to offer a highly effective means of achieving long term hair removal quickly, painlessly and without damaging the skin.

Women of a Certain Age

Whilst unwanted hair on legs, bikini and underarms is a problem generally accepted by many women as ‘something just to deal with’, particularly during the summer months, facial hair is quite different and can be the cause of extreme embarrassment and distress.

It is a fact that between the ages of 40-50 there is a gradual decline in oestrogen and progesterone levels due to ovarian tissue slowly ceasing to respond to stimulation by the gonadotrophic hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. There is at the same time an increase in levels of androgens (a general term for male hormones) circulating. They can cause hair growth when the hormone balance is disturbed during menopause.

It is estimated that an alarmingly high percentage of women experience a problem with unwanted hair growth during this time in their lives. At Cristianos Laser Clinic we understand how this can affect self-confidence and self-esteem and how difficult that can be to cope with.

You can be assured of an ethical and professional understanding approach to your individual problems and concerns. If you do not initially feel confident about trying laser/VPL then there are highly qualified clinicians who will advise on alternatives to suit your requirement.

Cristianos is registered to provide treatment for clients aged 16 and over.

All users of laser and intense pulsed light equipment must register and be inspected by the Care Quality Commission. This registration usually covers the treatment of adults over the age of 18 years. Treatment for males

In the presiding western culture, the image of the masculine hairy chest is no longer considered desirable and the hair free body is portrayed as the ideal. Testosterone is an extremely powerful hormone and is responsible for secondary sexual characteristics such as hair growth. The continued presence of testosterone means that although it is possible to remove large areas of hair growth complete removal is unrealistic. The treatment should be regarded as hair reduction and may require on going treatment.

Good grooming is becoming increasingly important to men. Excess body hair and poor skin conditions are a common problem and can now be addressed with the revolutionary Energist Ultra VPL â„¢ and the Chromos 694 Ruby Laser. Problem areas such as back, chest, shoulders, ear, nose and neck can now be addressed for hair removal and fine lines and wrinkles, acne, acne scarring or just improving ones skin conditions can now be achieved.

The needs for each individual are different and for that reason we can invite prospective clients to book a consultation in order to assess any problems you may have worries about and for us to give an honest appraisal of the optimum treatment requirements. This consultation is entirely free and without obligation, we also include a test patch so you can experience the results before you decide whether or not to have treatment.

You can be assured of an ethical and professional understanding approach to your individual problems and concerns. If you do not initially feel confident about trying laser/VPL then there are highly qualified clinicians who will advise on alternatives to suit your requirement.

Hair removal for all skin types using the Ultra VPL â„¢

The Energist ULTRAâ„¢ System is the most advanced hair removal & skin rejuvenation product available. Utilising state-of-the-art Variable Pulsed Light (VPLâ„¢) technology, the ULTRAâ„¢ System can be set-up to ensure the optimal parameters to provide a safe, fast and effective treatment for dark skin tones especially Asian Type IV.

What makes this System special?

Traditionally, most cosmetic procedures have been associated with lasers. As technology has progressed, research has shown that Intense Pulsed Light units, and in particular Variable Pulsed Light (VPL™) Systems, are regularly producing results. Pulsed Light units are non-laser, emitting light across a broad range of wavelengths that are preferentially absorbed by the appropriate structure in the skin. The ULTRA™ System is designed such that each light pulse comprises a number of rapid shorter pulses. These ‘variable pulses’ ensure more controlled absorption by the appropriate structures whilst minimising heating of the surrounding skin. This means that a greater range of hair and skin types can be safely and effectively treated than was previously possible.

How does it work?

Depending upon the treatment being carried out, light emitted from the ULTRA™ System is preferentially absorbed by the specific structure in the skin. For hair removal, the melanin in the hair absorbs this light and is heated to a temperature that permanently inhibits the hairs’ growth. For skin rejuvenation, various structures can absorb the light and repair the damage caused by ageing and the sun.

What conditions can be treated?

The ULTRAâ„¢ System has been designed to provide both safe and effective hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments.

Hair Removal: Unwanted hair can be removed from all parts of the body, including legs, chin, upper lip, bikini line, underarm, back and chest.

Skin Rejuvenation: Many skin complaints caused by ageing and sun damage can be successfully treated using the yellow light produced by the ULTRAâ„¢ System. These include: redness, rosacea, age/liver spots, freckles, pigment changes, skin texture and fine lines, facial thread veins and leg thread veins. Recent studies have shown that even active acne (Acne Vulgaris) has responded very well to phototherapy using yellow light.

Who can be treated

The versatility of the ULTRAâ„¢ System provides a safe and effective treatment for most hair and skin types, but a consultation with our highly trained clinicians, will provide you with a complete treatment programme. As the treatments have little or no visible side-effects, effective procedures can be performed quickly with no downtime.

Treatment Process

After a full consultation with our highly trained clinicians, a comprehensive treatment programme can be developed to match your needs and requirements. Depending upon which treatments are to be undertaken the basic procedure will stay the same:the area to be treated will be prepared and the applicator head will be stepped across to ensure complete coverage. Due to the large applicator head treatments can be performed quickly, which we know is important with today’s hectic lifestyle.

Is there anything I need to do prior to, or after, treatment?
It is advisable to stay out of the sun, and away from tanning beds, for at least 6 weeks prior to any treatment to ensure that your skin is as close as possible to its natural colour. You must ensure that all cosmetics are removed from the treatment area with a good cleanser and then allow the skin to settle. As the skin may be slightly more sensitive post-treatment it is recommended to use skin products developed for sensitive skin and again avoid the sun or tanning beds.

When will I see results?

Dependent upon the treatment performed and the area treated, results will be noticed after a series of treatments over a period of months. This is due to the body’s natural hair growth cycles and skin renewal. There is no ‘magic wand’ that will make everything perfect, but a good skin care regimen that is devised in conjunction with your therapist will ensure the optimum results that you desire.
