Dr Susan Davies MB BS MRCGP DRCOG

Qualified in 1987 from St Georges London, and trained in London and Surrey. In 1991 completed training as a GP, and went into practice on Epsom Downs. In 1996 gained membership of the Royal college of GPs, and moved to her current practice in the West Country, where she is an established and popular family doctor. She also works as a private hospital physician providing a weight management service, and the care of bariatric patients.

She successfully combines her skills and experience as a GP with her keen interest in dermatology and aesthetic medicine.

Unwanted Hair

Excess and unwanted hair is a common problem shared by both men and women.

Women frequently experience this condition on the face, especially the upper lip or eyebrow area, in the bikini area, under the arms or on the legs.

Unwanted hair can just be something inherited, race can be a factor. Sometimes it can be due to an underlying medical problem, for example polycyctic ovary syndrome. Even if unwanted hair is due to an underlying medical problem, laser treatment can be beneficial.

Men often wish to rid themselves of hair on their back or chest. They too may have unwanted hair between their eyebrows or on other parts of their face.

Some people experience unwanted or excess hair from the time they reach puberty; others find it to be a condition that gets worse with age.

Advanced laser technology is rapidly changing hair removal treatment, providing gentle, non-invasive and long-lasting solutions to unwanted hair.

Laser hair removal

Certain drugs can cause this to be a problem e.g. anabolic steroids, progesterone and metaclopromide Laser hair removal can be a lasting solution for this problem, and be less painful than electrolysis, or repeated waxing.

Laser can treat larger areas faster than can electrolysis and Thermolysis.

Most effective on dark hairs in fair-skinned people.

Multiple treatments may be necessary for long-term hair destruction.

The laser system is designed to remove unwanted hair through selective absorption of an intense light pulse at wavelength that will be absorbed by the hair follicle selectively, and not the surrounding tissue.
