Laser hair removal is a fast and effective method of removing unwanted hair. At BodyLaser Clinic our high quality laser hair removal systems produce very short pulses of concentrated laser light. Each laser pulse lasts only a few milliseconds. Without damaging the surrounding skin, the laser light passes down to the hair follicle where it is absorbed by the hair. Each laser pulse heats a large number of hair follicles and ultimately destroys the potential for hair growth. Hair may sometimes be ejected during the laser treatment but usually the dead hair is shed over the following week. Lasers have been used for hair removal since 1995 and millions of people worldwide have had their unwanted hair treated.

Is everyone suitable for laser hair removal?

At BodyLaser Clinic we use expensive, high quality, laser hair removal systems that can treat all skin types, including tanned and dark skin. We treat thick hair and thin hair. The treatment works best on dark hair and brown hair. Grey hair and blond hairs do not respond well to laser treatment. What does laser hair removal treatment feel like?

The lasers we use for hair removal at our Cambridge and Peterborough clinics actually cool the skin before each pulse of laser light. A laser pulse lasts for only a few milliseconds, it is so quick that only a mild sting is felt. The procedure is usually tolerated well. You can resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

What are the other methods of hair removal?

With Electrolysis an electric current is applied with a fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe into each hair follicle to destroy the root. Electrolysis is therefore a slow process which is suitable only for small areas of treatment. By delivering laser energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, our lasers effectively treat an area in just seconds, which might otherwise take an hour with Electrolysis.
